My love and fascination of Indian hand block printing, pure cotton fabrics & handcrafted textiles has been the motivation and inspiration behind the SoulSong label.
We are SLOW FASHION!
Creating timeless, easy to wear designs, each with a hint of Vintage Bohemian charm and made with LOVE!
Slow Fashion symbolizes sustainability. Working with small communities, respecting the wisdom and mastery of hand block printing, using natural syes and creating something so special that it cannot be repeated.
Hand Block Carving
Blocks of wood are sanded to a smooth finish then coated with a white chalk paste before tracing on the complex hand drawn designs. Using tradtional hand tools, a master carver skilfully carves out the instricate design to create a set of stamps. Some patterns may take up to 12 stamps to bring a design to life.
Hand Block Printing
The cotton fabric is stretched and pinned onto long padded tables in preparation for printing. The hand carved wooden blocks are now dipped into the tray if prepared dye - preferably natural pigment dyes - and printing negins by manually stamping the dye dipped blocks onto the fabric.
Multiple Block Printing
Often a print design has several colours & elements in the motif therefore multiple blocks may be used to crreate definition in the motif and colour ways before going into a full print production.
